Excerpt From Statement By CPCF Legal Team:
“Being drawn from the citizenry, some legislators will pray robustly, others will pray without passion, and still others will not pray at all. All three of these groups, however, have something in common – government cannot dictate that they pray, and government cannot dictate what they pray. The U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly held that placing restrictions on prayer (for example, the state creating a prayer that is then read over the loud speaker to students each day at school), or providing guidance on “acceptable prayers” to a rabbi charged with giving a junior high school graduation invocation, is a violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. Government is prohibited from directing the religious practices of others.”

WA: Game Not Over For Praying Coach
CPCF Legal Team: Thank you for praying with us that the Supreme Court would grant the cert petition of Coach Kennedy, who was fired for bending the knee and praying by himself on the field after a football game. The Supreme Court on January 22 denied the petition, but Justice Alito, for himself and Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh, wrote a statement that the reason they voted to deny review was that it was not clear that that was the only reason the coach had been fired. Justice Alito then went out of his way, however, to say that, if it were, the case would likely be suitable for review and criticized several comments of the Ninth Circuit decision that could be viewed as antagonistic to religion and prayer.
