AR: Atheist Group Objects To Act 911
“An atheist group has threatened the Bentonville Public School District to not comply with Arkansas Act 911, a new law enacted which provides for the display of the National Motto, “In God We Trust,” in public schools as a patriotic and historic display. Liberty Counsel has offered pro bono counsel and defense for the school district. The American Atheists, founded by the late Madalyn Murray O’Hair, has issued a letter to over 260 superintendents across the state, claiming that the display is unconstitutional and threatening to file suit in federal court if the school district complies with the new law. CPCF took action.
CA: VICTORY for Chabad of Irvine—But Challenges Remain
“…the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit blocked an attempt to prevent Chabad of Irvine from practicing a historic Jewish ritual….Just two days after the Ninth Circuit ruled in favor of the Orthodox Jewish community, activists filed APRL v. City of Los Angeles in federal court, seeking to force the cities of Los Angeles and Irvine to prevent Orthodox Jews from participating in the kaporos ritual, while claiming the right to place individual kaporos participants under “private persons arrest” if the police will not.”
“Many parents were upset to learn that their Cedartown Middle Schoolers were part of a discussion on Greek mythology that included a poem portraying God as a ‘mythical creature like a unicorn.’ ‘Parents should seize upon the opportunity to begin Bible clubs in that school district, and also other ministry opportunities, as well as have the district adopt school board policies that are very much in the parents’ liking in a faith-friendly community,’ Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute suggests.”

MA: Beantown Challenged On Flag Denial
“Boston has a policy allowing organizations to raise a flag next to the American flag on the city council plaza and bring in speakers. Liberty Counsel founder and president Mat Staver says the city permits varied groups to do so. ‘[It has ranged] from flags representing the Chinese Progressive Association to the Boston Pride – and even a transgender pink-and-blue flag has been raised as part of this public forum,’ he describes. ‘But in this case, they said no to the Christian flag.'”
