Pakistan: Nine Long Years Later, Woman Still Jailed For Her Faith
“Asia Bibi was arrested in June 2009 for allegedly committing blasphemy in Pakistan. William Stark with International Christian Concern says Bibi remains in jail to this day because she decided to defend her faith in a debate with co-workers.”
Turkey: Pastor Still Imprisoned
“The American Center for Law and Justice says an outrageous miscarriage of justice continues in Turkey.The Christian-based legal group is referring to the trial of 50-year-old American evangelical pastor Andrew Brunson. The North Carolina native is charged with terrorism and espionage, despite his 23 years of service to the Turkish people.”

MD: Fourth Circuit Calling For War Memorial In Shape Of Cross To Be Demolished
CPCF Legal Team: The case involves the Bladensburg Peace Cross, a memorial to area men who died in the First World War. It has stood since 1925 without bothering anyone until in 2014 the American Humanist Association felt that the monument violates the Constitution’s establishment clause. The district judge tossed the case, holding that the tiny amount of government money that is spent on upkeep does not endorse religion. The Fourth Circuit held 2-1 that this offends the First Amendment. On the petition for rehearing en banc the court declined by 8-6. Pray that the Supreme Court takes this case and reverses the Fourth Circuit ruling.
MI: University Failing To Protect Students’ Rights
UPDATE: “A university is aggressively trying to boot a student group off campus because it requires its leaders to adhere to Christian beliefs. Wayne State University, a campus of 28,000 students in Detroit, claims the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter on campus is discriminating by requiring its leaders to adhere to the organization’s statement of faith…It’s now to a federal court to decide if the group can stay or be expelled by the school.”
NY: New York Village Discriminating Against People Of Faith
“The orthodox Jewish community of Airmont, NY just wants to be left alone to peacefully worship and coexist without fear of criminal prosecution. This isn’t the first time hostile government officials have purposefully discriminated against people of the Jewish faith but we’re fighting to make it the last!”
OR: Oregon Supreme Court Denies Sweet Cakes Appeal
The Oregon Supreme Court has declined to consider the case of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, the now-defunct bakery that politely declined to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple in 2013 based on the bakers’ religious objections. “Last Friday, the Supreme Court turned down the case with no explanation. Melissa and Aaron Klein had been ordered to pay $135,000 to couple Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer in emotional damages in 2015 after the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries found that the Kleins violated state anti-discrimination law…Lawyers for the Kleins said Friday they will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.” Government is supposed to protect the First Amendment Rights of Americans; not fine or punish someone for living according to their deeply held beliefs about marriage.

WA: US Supreme Court Sends Floral Artist Case Back Washington High Court
“Barronelle Stutzman, the sole owner of Arlene’s Flowers in Richland, Washington, has for her entire career served and employed people who identify as homosexual. Despite this, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Washington attorney general allege that she is guilty of unlawful discrimination because she acted consistent with her faith and declined to use her creative skills to design floral arrangements for the same-sex ceremony of a long-time customer.” Government is supposed to protect the First Amendment Rights of Americans; not fine or punish someone for living according to their deeply held beliefs about marriage.
WI: Invocations Remain After Heated Debate
“…Brown County Board of Supervisors meeting started the same way it has for decades: with an invocation, or prayer. After discussion, the board voted to keep that play in practice. The board took up a proposal to eliminate the invocation, replacing it with a moment of reflection….A motion, essentially to table an ordinance that would chance the invocation, passed 17 to 9 – meaning an invocation will continue to open all county board meetings.” Send a message to thank the Brown County Board Members and show your support for their decision to protect invocations.
