In 2005, Congressman Randy Forbes of Virginia began unifying other Congressional Members and leaders to proactively stand for religious liberty, believing that a renewed trust in God, fervent prayer, and strategic action would preserve and protect our Constitutional Republic. To that end, Congressman Forbes obtained a strategic room in the Capitol, Room 219, in which Congressional Members could convene before every session to pray for our country. Now, members of Congress meet weekly in this room to seek the face and hand of God for Divine wisdom and intervention in our government’s affairs.
These Members formed the Congressional Prayer Caucus in 2005 – an official, bicameral caucus of the United States Congress – to acknowledge the important role that faith in God and prayer play in American life and history and to stand as a sentinel guard for the rights of all Americans to publicly pray and express their faith.
On November 18, 2005, dozens of Members of Congress stood on the steps of our nation’s Capitol and issued a formal “Call to Prayer for America” – a call to “pray without ceasing” for God to heal our land (1 Thess. 5:17 and 2 Chron. 7:14). Download this historic proclamation.
There are nearly 100 Members of the Caucus who are spearheading this strategic movement. Government and faith leaders, as well as ordinary citizens, are diligently working to restore, rejuvenate and promote America’s founding spirit and core principles related to faith and morality that shaped this Great Republic.
There is hope for our country, but we must follow the courageous example of those who have gone before us to see America remain a beacon of faith and freedom for the next generation.2 Chronicles 7:14 provides a timeless strategy for national deliverance. Join this critical movement, spearheaded by national leaders, to once again call upon the Lord, humble ourselves in prayer, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways, so that our sins may be forgiven and our land, healed.
Many of our Founders, Presidents and leaders, have called upon the citizens of this nation to humble themselves before Almighty God and seek His face. America has once again found herself in need of Divine intervention, and national and state government leaders are calling on all Americans to turn to God in prayer for healing of our nation.
