FL: Pensacola Counters Attack On Historic Cross

“A historic cross that has stood in a Pensacola park since World War II should not be torn down, the City of Pensacola told a federal appeals court. The cross is one of more than 170 displays in the city’s many public parks, but four people sued the city in 2016 claiming that the cross is “offensive.” A federal judge ordered that the monument must be removed, but the city has now appealed.” CPCF took action.

OK: ACLU Goes After Bible-Quoting Police Chief

“The police chief of a small Oklahoma town has taken action in hopes of satisfying the American Civil Liberties Union. Threatening a lawsuit, the ACLU issued a letter to Mayor Rosa Jackson in Mounds, demanding that the local police department refrain from posting Bible verses to social media.”

PA: Federal Judge Orders Removal Of Cross

“A federal judge has ordered a Pennsylvania county to remove the cross from its seal, saying it violated the Constitution. Lehigh Valley County, which is about 40 miles north of Philadelphia, will have to redesign its seal after U.S. District Judge Edward Smith ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an organization that promotes separation of church and state and which filed the lawsuit against the county, according to The Morning Call.”

WA: Update: Football Coach Seeks Rehearing 

“Attorneys for First Liberty Institute today filed a petition on behalf of their client, football coach Joe Kennedy, requesting an en banc rehearing of Coach Kennedy’s case by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. If granted, eleven active Ninth Circuit judges—including the chief judge—would hear Coach Kennedy’s case and issue a decision.”
