Win For Legislative Prayer – More Cases On Government Prayer May Await The Supreme Court
“For decades, the Board of Commissioners in Jackson County, Michigan, has opened its sessions with an invocation done by rotating county commissioners – an arrangement challenged in 2013 by atheists, but then upheld this week by the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. In a similar ruling in 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Township of Greece, New York, which called on volunteer pastors to open government meetings with prayer.”
After FEMA Denies Churches Disaster Relief Grants, President Trump Makes A Statement
“Hurricane Harvey is now history – but the devastation that resulted from the storm is not, especially in Texas and Louisiana. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is on hand and doing a good job helping victims, but attorney Daniel Blomberg of Becket tells OneNewsNow the federal agency is crossing off the list some victims that it shouldn’t.”While other types of private non-profit organizations are allowed to apply for disaster relief grants from FEMA to help deal with the devastation they’ve suffered, churches are categorically barred simply because they are religious,” he shares. “That’s wrong and it’s unconstitutional – particularly under the Supreme Court’s decision this summer in the Trinity Lutheran case.”
President Trump on Friday evening voiced his support for Texas churches receiving disaster relief money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following Hurricane Harvey. “Churches in Texas should be entitled to reimbursement from FEMA Relief Funds for helping victims of Hurricane Harvey (just like others),” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Religious Liberty Legislation
Continue praying consistently and fervently for the successful passage of legislation that effectively protects our Judeo-Christian heritage and religious liberty. Also, pray that bills and resolutions that undermine our First Amendment Rights will be unsuccessful.
CA: Churches Fighting For Freedom Of Conscience
“The California Department of Managed Health Care is forcing churches to pay for elective abortions in their health insurance plans. Its mandate forces all insurance plans to cover all abortions. The state doesn’t force churches to pay for contraceptive coverage but nonetheless requires them to pay for elective abortion coverage.”
MI: Victory For Legislative Prayer
First Liberty Institute is applauding a ruling in favor of invocations before government meetings. The victory—in which First Liberty represented commissioners of Jackson County, Michigan—comes from a court that is one level below the U.S. Supreme Court.
MO: City Sells Land Surrounding Cross To Private Foundation
“A prominent professing atheist organization has expressed its skepticism after a Missouri city recently sold a section of land surrounding an 80-year-old cross display to a private foundation in an effort to assuage the organization’s concerns about government endorsement of Christianity.”
“After first being told by a court they could pray based on their faith – and then being told they couldn’t – commissioners in Rowan County, North Carolina, are considering whether to take their case to the Supreme Court…Rowan County commissioners have 90 days in which to decide whether to appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. The case is Lund v. Rowan County.” Contact the Commissioners to let them know you stand with their right to pray in a public setting, and encourage them to appeal the case to the United States Supreme Court.”
