Steven W. Fitschen is the President of the National Legal Foundation (NLF). The NLF is a public interest law firm located in Chesapeake, Virginia. He previously served as the organization’s Administrator, Executive Vice President, and Executive Director. He served for nine years as a member of the Regent University School of Law faculty.

Founded in 1985, the National Legal Foundation has litigated numerous prominent cases. Among these are Lefemine v. Wideman, Board of Education of Westside Community Schools v. Mergens, and Equality Foundation of Greater Cincinnati v. Cincinnati at the United States Supreme Court; and Moore v. ACLU of Alabama at the Alabama Supreme Court.

Prior to coming to the National Legal Foundation, Mr. Fitschen was employed by the American Center for Law and Justice in a variety of capacities including Policy Assistant, Assistant Director of Publications, Coordinator of Special Events, and Assistant to the Executive Director. Mr. Fitschen has been a teacher, a business owner, and has worked for two Fortune 100 companies.

Mr. Fitschen has appeared on the Today Show, CNN, BBC radio, Family News in Focus, and numerous other local, national, and international radio and television shows. He has been interviewed for scores of newspaper and magazine articles.

He is a widely published writer. His law review article, Impeaching Federal Judges: A Covenantal and Constitutional Response to Judicial Tyranny, was cited twenty-five times at the House Clinton Impeachment Hearings in 1999, and four times at a Senate hearing in 2015. The author of God Save This Honorable Court: Six Landmark Court Decisions Which Have Changed America, he has also written over fifty articles, papers, and pamphlets in a variety of fields including religious liberty, constitutional law, public policy, economics, and forestry. He has served as the editor of several publications.

In addition to his J.D. degree, Mr. Fitschen has earned a Master of Divinity, an M.A. in Public Policy, and two Bachelor of Science degrees. He earned numerous awards in each academic program, including being named the Outstanding Graduate in the School of Public Policy.

He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, in eleven of the federal Courts of Appeals, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and in the Virginia state courts.

He has testified before the Alaska and Colorado legislatures and has submitted written testimony to the United States Senate and House of Representatives and to the Kansas legislature. He has prepared model legislation that has been adopted in many states.

He has served in a variety of leadership roles in several churches and has served on the board of directors of several corporations. Mr. Fitschen and his wife, Donna, reside in Chesapeake, Virginia, and have five children (one deceased) and five grandchildren.
